Pão da Vida
"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in" -
Pão da Vida was formed in 2021 on the back of the effect the pandemic was having on the people of the Algarve. We realised there was an urgent need to help those in our church and local community who had lost their jobs and had families to feed.
Yvette Stembridge and Jan Bradford spearheaded this vision and set up the project with the help of others in the congregation who have worked tirelessly to make a huge difference in the lives of so many people.
How it works
People can either donate food - non perishable food items or toiletries can be added to weekly shopping which can be deposited outside church on a Sunday morning. These items are stored in our food bank and distributed regularly to those who are in need. Or, give to the Pao da Vida fund. This fund has been set up for those who wish to donate funds which are then used to either buy items the food bank is lacking or meet a particular need that someone urgently needs help with.
Recently, with the arrival of many Ukrainian refugees, Pao da Vida food bank and special fund is also being used to assist in this crisis providing food and urgent things the refugees need to begin their lives again in Portugal.
